Feature request for Calibre - report number of merged books

Here is the usesase:

I select lots of books in a file manager and drag & drop them into Calibre. Thanks to great support for reading metadata and reading data from file name most of the books are added to Calibre with decent metadata and covers.
Now I want to review the new books in Calibre. But I do not know how many were added. I know how many I have dragged in Calibre, but I only get a list of books that were merged automatically in a dialog panel:
"The following duplicate books were found ... and were merged ..."
Here I have choice to Copy the list to clipboard, show list or dismiss the dialog.

I would like to have an info like:
The following 27 duplicate book[s] were found ... and were merged ...

Or even:
145 books have been added to Calibre. The following 27 duplicate book[s] were found ... and were merged ...

At the moment I just copy the list to clipboard and paste it into a decent text editor. In a text editor I can see how many lines I have pasted, so I can calculate if I have to check 100 or 50 books.

Unless you are adding large multiple sets of books in a single day, wouldn't the search

date:=today

do what you want, already?

That is a nice trick, but I do add quite a few such sets in relatively rapid succession on a given day.

Why don't you just sort by the date added column?

You may be Merging into a 'Empty book' or an ovder entry. I do use 'Last_Modified' but there are still external processes that do not (know if/when to) bump the timestamp
Like 'Open With': Sigil

What I read of his request sounded like he wanted a count of books that were specifically *added*, which are going to be at the top of the list? I agree totally that the ones that were merged aren't going to show up using that approach, but tbh I can't see what having a count would achieve either

I only want to check the names of the records that were actually added to the database with the most recent Drag & Drop. I want to believe that books that were merged had names identified properly.
So I have database sorted by date and I want to know how many books from the top down I need to check. I know I could write down number of books in DB before drag & drop and after, I could set a column and mark the last book before adding books, I can see how many books I am dropping into Calibre and then count the list of merged books ...
But the number of merged books (or even added during the last drag & drop) in a dialog [that already does have the info, because it has a list of merged books] seems the most elegant solution.

Or you could just configure a tag to be added to new books (Preferences -> Adding books) , and remove it once you have eyeballed them using bulk edit...
