Alanna Knight Historical Mysteries $.99 each (Amazon) [US]

Daily Cheap Reads posted about these. This is her backlist going back to the 1980s. They were previously trade published by St. Martin's and others.

Product Description

'The Gruesome Convent Murders'
Prime suspects are a fanatical nun, an aristocratic hermit and a public schoolboy in a chronicle of terror, betrayal, greed and violence. As this sensational case for which the murderer has been executed is reopened when a second victim is claimed, D.I Faro is drawn into the shady underworld beyond Victorian middle-class Edinburgh's theatres and salons.
First book in Rose McQuinn series The Inspector's Daughter

Quote:
Product Description

Rose McQuinn returns to Edinburgh from the American wild west of 1895. Her baby has died while her husband Danny, working with Pinkerton’s Detective Agency in Arizona goes missing. She has little time to grieve before she unwittingly takes on a new career by agreeing to investigate the strange behaviour of the husband of her childhood friend Alice.. But what appears to be an adulterous affair suggests something much more sinister, the brutal and still unsolved murder of a servant girl. Whatever heartbreak lies in store, Rose must discover the truth. From her home in Solomon’s Tower on Arthur’s Seat, aided by a wild deerhound who befriends her, her fist investigation puts her own life in deadly danger.

I ran into these the other day as one of my Amazon recommendations.
Wasn't sure what I'd found but they look pretty good, so I picked up four of the Inspector's series and two of the daughter's...never know when those prices will go up! Thanks for the background info on the author.

Another slightly oddball find I came across (via the UK thriller forums) is Desmond Cory. Apparently he's an Ian Fleming contemporary whose hero is Johnny Fontana. Anyway, the first in series is only .99 (and also a KOLL selection.)
[Yes, I know, not exactly Victorian 'tec related - just another cheapo trad pub find I'm not sure where to put...not necessarily separate-thread worthy.]

Dead Man Falling by Desmond Cory

A bizarre honeymoon plunges Fedora into the search for a disguised Nazi killer, a fabulous cache of diamonds – and an espionage plot so monstrous it will hold readers spellbound until the shattering climax.

“As one has come to expect from Cory, colorful action, copious carnage, elaborate intrigue, frequent surprises.”
New York Times Book Review

“Readers who like their thrillers to complement their intelligence must on no account miss Mr Cory.”

Yes, some of her other books in the series are $6.99. I don't know if that's because they are new or the others are going up to that. I got the first one in each series and planning on reading them right away and grabbing the others if I like them.

Yours sounds interesting, too.

I was thinking it might be nice to start a suspense/mystery thread, as I've been admiring the monthly romance threads. I like the conversation and recommendations they have going there.

If you start it, I'll be happy to post there! There have been lots of good price drops (especially Scandinavian crime) lately, would be nice to have a running place to post. And there seem to be plenty of mystery lovers around here, too...

All right! Cool. Should be fun.

( I got the Cory book. It looks funny. Soon I will have to join the Addicts thread. )
