Kobo Reader on Mac OSX Lion -- where to download?

Hi. I have a Mac Book Pro (latest Lion OSX) and an iPad (latest iOS 5.1.1).

Questions.

1. Where to get the Kobo ereader software for OSX? Seriously, the kobo website sucks big time. There's banner after banner of freedom and such nonsense. We get it. It's open, and great (and every book is more expensive, but let's not talk about that). Now -- where do I download the reader for OSX Lion?

2. What's the procedure to get all my books in some folder somewhere -- either via iTunes/iPad or through my OSX Finder -- in "epub" or whatever format easily? Each book as one separate file?

Thanks so much! I've googled and spent a lot of time on kobobooks.com but couldn't find a simple download link for the reader software. My "App Store" in OSX does not result in any app when I search for "Kobo"!

1. Just go to the "Free Apps" tab at kobobooks.com, and click "Mac/PC" at the bottom. Or go straight there:

http://www.kobobooks.com/desktop

2. I disinfect, then use Calibre.

edited to add: Is there any particular reason, though, that you're trying to use the Kobo desktop reader? I find the best way to manage ebooks on my iPad is just to use iTunes/iBooks, or Stanza. I don't read ebooks on my Mac, though, so I don't know what the advantages and disadvantages are of the many different software options for that. Just wondering why Kobo in particular, for you, given that you don't have a Kobo reader.

I am just used to Kobo, that's all. It shows my ePUB books under "Books" in the library, and all my PDFs as "Documents". I want them to be synced on both iPad and my laptop, because sometimes I dont carry my ipad with me.

Thanks for the help. That link works!

Do you prefer Caliber because it's a better interface? I think Kobo looks cleaner -- from the screenshots, Caliber doesn't look pretty.

You are aware that Kobo Desktop and the various apps on different platforms do NOT read ePub format material; rather they read Kobo's OWN variant of ePub.

It is only when you use one of the dedicated readers (Original Kobo / Kobo WiFi / Kobo Touch) that ePub formats are supported.

I don't think there's anyone out there using Calibre for its fetching turn-of-the-century looks. I use it for its power.

Calibre's last update has a new "skin" which looks more modern. I find it looks better than the original although you do have the choice of keeping the old one if you prefer it.

Do you only buy books from Kobo? Calibre has the ability to catalogue ALL ebooks (and even paper books) regardless of provenance or format. And many, many other features that Kobo's desktop application doesn't come close to having....

Easiest/Quickest way to get your books on your iPad is use the Kobo iPad app then you dont need to download them individually

as for the OS X client, did you really have trouble finding it, go to the kobo website and click on free apps
