HC Launches Program to Publish English Language Titles Globally

In a move to make its English language titles available around the globe, HarperCollins has launched a program called HarperCollins 360. The program, HC said in an announcement Wednesday morning, will, when it is fully up and running, ensure that "the HarperCollins global catalog -- 50,000 print books and 40,000 e-books -- will be available, limited only by the rights held, not by technology or geography."



On July 1, HarperCollins U.K. titles will be moved over to a team overseeing HarperCollins 360 in the U.S. Jean Marie Kelly will be heading the U.S. division of HC 360, handling everything from the editorial pipeline to marketing/publicity, and taking on the title of affiliate publisher. HC said that by the end of 2012, it expects to have eligible titles from its Canadian and Australian authors available to customers in the U.S. A rep from HC said that titles by American authors will be shuttled into the program "sometime" in the next 12 months.



President and CEO of HarperCollins, Brian Murray, said the program is made possible through partnerships with various POD vendors. He added: "Our vision is to have the entire HarperCollins book catalog available for customers in all major territories for which we have rights

Looks like there'll be a lot more availability of titles by HC's "Commonwealth" authors. Eventually, there will be more availability in Australia, etc. of US authors. There will still be problems negotiating rights. But it's a start.
