Lightbulb Free (Kindle UK) Pagan Christianity?: Exploring Roots… [Xtian Church Customs History]

Pagan Christianity?: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices by Frank Viola & George Barna is a history of almost Exactly What It Says In The Title, according to some of the more critical customer reviews which says it concentrates a lot more on the non-pagan parts of common church customs and therefore didn't have as many of the pagan-derived bits they were more interested in learning about, free courtesy of Christian publisher Tyndale House's BarnaBooks imprint.

Anyway, it does otherwise look fairly interesting, with chapters about the derivation of churchly architecture, the origins of the choir, the ideas behind the way theological education was approached, etc. And it's a nice change of pace from the devotionals and inspirational scriptural self-help and how-to-evangelize guides we usually get for faith-based non-fiction.

Currently free @ Amazon UK. This is probably a glitch freebie, as it is not free in any of the other UK stores, and has price-dropped from $9.99 to $0.99 in the US, so I suspect it's a sale markdown that went awry somewhere. Enjoy!

Description
Have you ever wondered why we Christians do what we do for church every Sunday morning? Why do we “dress up” for church? Why does the pastor preach a sermon each week? Why do we have pews, steeples, choirs, and seminaries?

This volume reveals the startling truth: most of what Christians do in present-day churches is not rooted in the New Testament, but in pagan culture and rituals developed long after the death of the apostles.

Coauthors Frank Viola and George Barna support their thesis with compelling historical evidence in the first-ever book to document the full story of modern Christian church practices.
