How does Karma / Reputation work?

Is there a recommended scale for awarding Karma points?

I haven't been able to locate any Forum procedures re Karma or Reputation - are there any?

It's a bit like Christmas, in that not only do you get something pleasant for free, but you can also give something away at no cost to yourself.

So, although you can't make a living at it, you do get a few warm glows, quite a few laughs, and the vaguely humbling acceptance that someone said something you wish you'd said, in the way you wished you'd said it !

It's a pointless number imo, so the amount you give or receive doesn't really matter. What is good about it though is you get to know if someone else appreciated your post or really agreed with it but had nothing further to add. It helps avoid a "+1/me too/I agree" style response. That and the comments you receive can be quite amusing at times

Only problem I see with it is huge inflation. I think I have gotten karma only 3 times...

So yeah, just a nice bonus which tells atleast some(or one) of your posts got someone with lot of it to give boost...

Karma is kinda like the "like" button on FB, just way better. I like to give karma to people who make me laugh. Most of the people on MR are way smarter and "knowier" about things, if I had to give karma to all the intelligent comments on here I'd run out in like five seconds.

Whilst I'm still only a newbie to this Forum it is more than obvious re the membership's overall intellect, creative writing skills and ability to postulate an idea or two ...... and isn't it wonderful to feel comfortable in this environment!
