Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon keeps its design intact
Verizon is one of the five carriers to start offering the Samsung Galaxy S III this month and leaked pictures show that the device will virtually be an untouched version of its international GSM sibling.Android Central got their hands on some photos of the Galaxy S III for the Big Red, which, excluding the 4G Verizon logo on the back, is the same as the GSM model of the device. The only difference is it runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset with 2GB of RAM.
Samsung have decided not to alter the Galaxy S III as much as they did with the Galaxy S II lineup last year and launch the device with the same outfit as everywhere else. This seems to be the case with the US-bound T-Mobile version and the one sold by AT&T, as well. Speaking of launch, it's yet unclear when Verizon is going to put the Galaxy S III on the shelves, but it will surely be sometime this month. |

Same in Canada. It should be available on the 20th, and I have read that the 21st is the date in the US. Canadian carriers tend not to mess with the devices, which is very nice - no branded logos or bloatware.
I'm most likely going to get one. |

No quad core CPU
Latest word is it will not have the quad core CPU currently in the non-US models. So the design is not really intact.
Given Verizon's very very late (and still non-exitant for many) Android update for the Galaxy Nexus I would avoid them if you are concerned with running the latest SW or even getting bugs fixed in a timely manner. Also remember that if you travel outside the US Verizon's CDMA is not usable throughout much of the rest of the world. |

The NA versions replace the quad-core Exynos with Qualcomm's S4 (dual-core). The reason for that is that Qualcomm's S4 is the only chipset available with integrated LTE. The Exynos, like the Tegra 3, is based on the older ARM9 architecture, whereas the S4 is based on the newer A15 architecture. Although it only has 2 cores, the S4 is noticeably faster than a dual-core ARM9, and in some aspects it beats the quad-core Tegra 3. The Exynos is supposed to be faster than the Tegra 3, so it will probably be ahead of the S4 in most if not all benchmarks. However, benchmarks are just that, benchmarks, when it comes to every day use, I pretty much doubt you'll be able to tell the difference between the S4 and the Exynos. Besides, the NA version (S4) comes with 2GB RAM, which for most people is more beneficial than having a quad-core. Another advantage of the S4 is that it is manufactured using a 28nm process (as opposed to 32nm for the Exynos and 40nm for the Tegra 3), which means it is more power efficient.

Yes but they will also have 2gb ram instead of the 1 gb for most of the international versions. I would take extra ram over more processors as most apps are not optimized for quad quore anyway.

Smartphones are overpriced. $920 for a phone is ridiculous.

Ouch, were did you hear that price? (I can't find non-contract pricing for any of the carriers)
I'm tempted to replace my original Galaxy S (Epic 4G) with this, but I'm not sure yet. Samsung/Sprint's updates have been slow and lackluster and really in some ways the phone runs worse now than it did out of the box almost 2 years ago. Part of me is considering an iPhone instead. . |

On contract it is: $199 (phone) + $720 (data: 2 yrs @ $30/mo) = $920
Off contract is worse: $>500 (phone) + $720 (data) = >$1,200 Verizon makes you get a data plan even on smartphones you pay full price for. I have a Samsung flip phone (no data) and a <$200 Galaxy Player. The money I save from not having a forced data plan allows me to upgrade my player, ereader, and tablet every year; and still have money left over. |

Guess I'll stick with my Galaxy S II... it's running Android 4+ and still does even more than I want... and lets me make phone calls as well...
