PC Connect problem

Just got a new PRS-T1 yesterday and I'm having a heck of a time getting it to connect to my PC. Reader itself is fine, wifi works, all set up and accounts authorized no problem.

But when I try to connect to my Windows 7 PC via USB, selecting Data Transfer Mode, I only ever see one drive mounted, the Settings drive. I was able to install Reader for PC from there, but still after numerous reboots, resets of the reader, removal of the drivers from windows and re-connect etc etc, it will still never show more than that one Settings drive.

Reader for PC will not see my reader when connected.
Installed Cailbre as well and it will not see my reader either.

Help! Getting quite frustrated with this at the moment and am not sure what else to try!

Try another USB cable - any one with the same plug... EXCEPT anything Apple-y, they don't like each other at all !

I'm bit mystified, as surely you ad to connect to PC to register, and all that.
[ Don't chuck Calibre, though, you'll find it better than the Sony junkware ! ]

I must be the data cable, 'cos the 'Transfer Data' tag has pooped up on the reader.

Just a quiet aside here,
when I connect my T1, I always look at it with Windows Explorer through the "tree" on the left side of the page.

On it, the Settings are listed below my last hard drive letter (I have three hard drives), but the other T1 drive is listed above my external hard drives, between my internal hard drive and CDRW, and the external harddrives.

The first time I plugged it in, it took me a while to see it.

No luck.

I tried another USB cable, one I know works as I use it for my phone all the time. Same thing, I only get the Settings drive mounted.

What is particularly odd is that when my Reader is connected, I see three devices in Device Manager show up, the Settings USB volume, the SD USB volume, and the Reader USB volume. However, only the Settings one will ever show up in explorer, and neither reader for PC or Calibre will recognize that my Reader is connected.

BTW, I was able to get everything set up and configured by using WIFI, that worked no problem. Just can't get it to connect properly to my laptop!

Assuming that a hard reset (the multiple button press hard reset, not the reset pinhole one) has been performed already, I think my next move would be to reload the T1's firmware.

Are you by any chance using Acronis backup on your PC? I had exactly your problem and traced it to the Acronis USB drivers not supporting all USB devices properly. A work round is to go into Device Manager and disable the problem devices then immediately re-enable them whereupon they appear in Windows Explorer and Calibre sees the PRS-T1.
This worked for me and its probably worth a try even if you aren't using Acronis.

You can try formating SD card in the reader Home page 2, Settings, Initialization, Format Memory, SD Card.

I was using SD Association formatter in full over write mode and giving the card a name but think Sony formatter is better for PRS -T1 after giving the SD card a name with SD Association formatter.
