Kindle touch won't go into diagnostic mode

I have a kindle touch that I'm trying to update the firmware on, and I followed the "guide to de-brick kindle touch from Silver18 and got it to go into fastboot mode, and flashed the diags partition withthe mmcblk0p2.img file that adds ssh to diags, and afterward followed the instructions to type fastboot setvar bootmode diags which said it worked, then typed fastboot reboot, but the kindle does not go into diags mode. i can type fastboot setvar bootmode main and get it to go back to the main partition, but can't get any father in the instructions than that. any suggestions ?

You need to flash a matching diags kernel. Read the "simple debricking" sticky thread, first post, first paragraph.

Yep, step 7 of the "FLASH NEW DIAGS WITH SSH AND KERNEL" part!
