Reading page problems
"I have been using Calibre for some time but now I mainly use it as a
library. I am using Kindle PC to read and there is only one reason. Frequently at the top or bottom I get only half a line (half the font). This NEVER happens on Kindle PC. See attachment. Is their a solution for that. I find it extremely annoying. Bubbecus" |

The built-in calibre reader can be resized like any window to whatever you prefer. That preferred window size can be saved and will apply whenever you open a book with the calibre reader if you set it thus:
Open a book in the calibre viewer. Resize the window. Along the left of calibre reader window you'll see icons. Look for Preferences icon (gear cogs). If that's not visible click the double arrow at the bottom of the sidebar of icons. Click that Prefs icon. Near the bottom are some checkboxes. Check: "Remember last-used window size and position". There are other variables. If you don't want to deal with CSS and font and font-size, line height is easily adjustible. You can set minimum line height for conversions in Prefs/Conversions/Common Options, or in the conversion dialog box Look&Feel. Mine is set at 120.0%. You can also change top or bottom margins to different values in Conversion dialog, Page setup. Regardless, in the calibre viewer any lines at top or bottom can be scrolled up or down in the reader. AFAIK, between different books, line heights, fonts, fontsizes, margins, etc, any solution of any regular conversion settings will not apply to 100% of all books 100% of the time. |

Calibre viewer has always been this way. Some books worse than others and some are perfectly aligned. And the partial line always shows up on the next pages.
It has a lot of features not found in other readers so it is my reader of choice on the PC, but it is easy to change so you can use your system default viewer under preferences>behavior Helen |

Pros IMO.
If you hit info it displays the embedded metadata which may not always be the same as shown in the gui If you select text right click and click inspect it shows you the CSS for your selection A fair amount of user options which are easy to change. Easy to change font size keyboard shortcuts etc. The settings/page advance/search etc. menus visible at all times (not great looking but I like the convenience.) Can advance page by hitting the spacebar. Can view many formats from within calibre(I know it converts to epub on the fly) Cons Not as smooth an shiny as some. But being able to view most file formats in one viewer makes up for this for me. Opens a new instance every time which can be confusing. The above mentioned partial lines or lines that are displayed twice. Of course usefulness is in the eye of the beholder, but I find it useful and convenient enough. Helen |

I'm pretty sure calibre's built-in viewer is very specifically an EPUB viewer. It just gets the benefit of calibre's format conversion functionality. So if you want to view a mobi or lit or fb2 or whatever format, it does a temporary conversion to epub before displaying.
