OpenVPN possible on KT?
Hello to the devs/hackers:
Would it be possible to get OpenVPN to the KT? Maybe controllable via a the plugin? This way I could expose my Calibre content server to my VPN and access it with the kobo. Regards Aydan PS: There's an ARM port for the Nokia N900 (ARM Cortex A8) already available. Last edited by Aydan; 03-28-2012 at 11:23 AM. |

It wouldn't be too hard to get OpenVPN itself working on the Touch, I think. The major problem
would be in getting a GUI. Chances are that the Nokia N900 port wouldn't pick up the KT's touch screen input, so someone would have to write a custom GUI for the KT. |

As far as I know it's mostly commandline. The gui is optional. It can also run as a deamon and has a management interface via network connection.

Yes, the GUI is optional. I've never used OpenVPN, so I don't know exactly what you
want to do with it. Is it just a few commands you'd want to run? |

OpenVPN can be started in a shell, which would probably be best in this case.
Code:
openvpn [config file] The config file and certificates would reside on the kobo internal storage and be created/transferred with the PC. |

The only real problem I've encountered so far is that OpenVPN is looking for the file tun.ko,
which isn't on the Touch by default. This file needs to be compiled for the specific Linux kernel it will be running on. I haven't yet been able to compile it to run on my Touch. My Touch stopped working a few days ago for some reason. So until I get it repaired or replaced I can't do anything, but I haven't forgotten about your request. Unfortunately not. Kobo decided to send me a kobo wifi to replace my broken touch,
so I'm out of the touch hacking game now. I probably won't buy another touch any time soon, since I just got an Android phone and I'm developing for that now. Sorry I forgot to let you know what was going on. |
