Free Book - Tau Ceti (K/DF)

Tau Ceti, by Kevin J. Anderson and Steven Savile, is a repeat freebie in the Kindle store, courtesy of publisher Phoenix Pick. This is the first title in The Stellar Guild series, which will have a different author for each volume.

Since they are using the Kindle Select program to offer it free, it isn't available anywhere else, but it is DRM free, so download a copy and convert with Calibre for any other ereader device. This was free in the Kindle store in March, so you may already have it in your library.

There is also a $2.99 deal on the second title in the series, Reboots, by Mercedes Lackey. It's currently going for $4.31 on Amazon ($4.99 list price), but you can save a bit over a buck by getting it direct from Phoenix Pick.

Book Description
Jorie Taylor has lived her whole life on the generation ship Beacon. Fleeing an Earth tearing itself apart from its exhaustive demand for resources, the Beacon is finally approaching Sarbras, the planet circling Tau Ceti they hope to make humanity’s new home.

But Earth has recovered from its near-death experience and is now under the control of a ruthless dictator whose sights are set on Tau Ceti as well. President Jurudu knows how to get what he wants—and he wants Sarbras.

With Sequel Novelette by Steven Savile.

Other authors writing works for the series are:

Mercedes Lackey (Reboots, published December, 2011)
Robert Silverberg (Blue Shift, expected Fall, 2012)
Harry Turtledove (All Aboard, expected Fall 2012)
Larry Niven, Mike Resnick and Eric Flint (unnamed projects, late 2012, early 2013).

Kevin J. Anderson has penned over a hundred novels, 48 of which have become bestsellers; he has more than 23 million copies of his works in print. He is the author of the critically acclaimed Saga of Seven Suns series and has teamed with Brian Herbert (son of Frank Herbert) to write 13 books set in the Dune universe.

Get Reboots for $2.99, direct from Phoenix Pick. You'll get both the EPUB and MOBI formats on both, DRM-free, so you can use them on any ereader easily (just copy or email the MOBI files to your Kindle). You'll get a link via email, in case you need to download later, but back up your books, as the publisher only allow 5 downloads per title (email the Mobi to your Kindle and it will be backed up there).

Book Description
Space travel is tough. No air, cosmic radiation, absolute lack of other life-sustaining essentials.

What better way to deal with space travel than to man ships with creatures that regenerate or don’t need air, or are immune to various maladies?

In a future world where zombies, vampires and werewolves co-exist with ‘normal’ humans on Earth, these ships are staffed by a motley crew of various types of undead or near-dead creatures.

Of course no one really knows what happens when zombies and vampires are squeezed together in the close confines of a spaceship.

Don’t you love surprises?

Mercedes Lackey is a New York Times best selling author with over 80 books in print. She is well known for creating complex multi-cultural worlds inhabited by human and non-human characters. Her acclaimed and best selling series of books related to the Valdemar saga takes place in the intricately woven world of Velgarth. To date there are 27 novels and six anthologies set in this world, and many of these books have become New York Times bestsellers.
