Harry Potter on Kindle Prime Lending Library
Read on a news site that Amazon had acquired the digital rights for the Harry Potter series.
To be honest I was unaware that they never had them for sale to start with but anyway. If you are a Harry Potter fan and a kindle user this could be of interest I guess. |

What they have announced is that the Harry Potter books will be available as part of the Kindle Lending Library. So US-based Amazon Prime members will be able to read them for free. (One per month)

Are you talking about this announcement that the Harry Potter ebooks will be available free in Amazon's Kindle Owner's Library for those who have Amazon Prime membership in the US?

The Kinkle... is that a Kindle for kinky people? It comes pre-loaded with 50 Shades of Gray? And what does that have to do with Harry Potter?

I'm wondering how the geographic restrictions will work out. I own the UK version and had to dance through a few hoops to work that out - I'd love to be able to borrow the Italian.

Amazon will be able to lend the Harry Potter novels to US Prime Members who own a Kindle. That is all. They have not bought thr rights, they have reached an agreement with Pottermore.
Which means, that they are only available to people in the US, who are Prime Members, and who own Kindles. You can borrow one book a month as a Prime Member so it willt ake a minimum of seven months to borrow the entire series. |

Although if you enjoyed the book I don't see why someone wouldn't purchase the rest of the series, although I also don't see why someone wouldn't borrow the book from their public library, the wait is probably the same. If they even could borrow the ebook from their library. It sounds like a bit of walled garden to me. |

You or another member of your community has already compensated the creator for your read of course. It is quite simple to imagine a national/global public library which would quite effectively end torrenting and perhaps piracy in general.
