Sending file written in Chinese to Kindle 4 Basic

I emailed a text file that just contained English to my Kindle and it worked, but not with Chinese. However I was able to transfer it via usb by just dropping it in the documents folder. Do I need to take any extra steps to send it via email? Or is it not possible to email files written in Chinese (Japanese, Korean, etc...) ? This is the response email: Dear Customer, The following document, sent at 03:52 PM on Wed, May 09, 2012 GMT could not be delivered to the Kindle you specified: * chineseTest.txt Last edited by menevets; 05-09-2012 at 12:14 PM. .txt files don't have any way to specify the encoding used, so the conversion software won't know how to convert it. Maybe when you just read the .txt file on the Kindle, it assumes that it is in UTF-8.

For emails, i usually use .txt that are saved in unicode or utf-8. But for most of my chinese texts that are not saved in unicode or utf-8, i use calibre for conversion to mobi using the specified encoding (gb18030 for simplified chinese) then i'll email it to my kindle. Much easier than sending the file to Amazon and worry it won't show up correctly.

You can simply open Notepad, choose "Save As...", encoding: UTF-8. The Kindle uses UTF, not GB or BIG5 code. |
