Suddenly can't load AP news onto $80 Kindle
Ever since I got my $80 ad-supported Kindle, I have been enjoying daily dowloads of the AP and BBC news. I have upgraded to Calibre 0.8.51 and i am running Ubuntu 12 Linux. I can see my Kindle and its contents just fine in the file manger. However I can't seem to copy files directly into the Kindle as i could back when I was running Windows Vista. I tried to check the Permission on the Kindle but I don't know how to interpret what Ubuntu says and/or how to change the Permissions if needs be. Rather oddly, when I plug my Kindle into my USB, Ubuntu thinks it is a media player [!?]. However, Calibre recognizes it as a Kindle. When I try to send an AP MOBI to my Kindle's main memory, I get this error message:
calibre, version 0.8.51 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device [Errno 30] Read-only file system: u'/media/Kindle_/metadata.calibre' Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 82, in run File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 339, in _books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/kindle/driver.py", line 333, in books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/usbms/driver.py", line 246, in books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/usbms/driver.py", line 390, in sync_booklists File "site-packages/calibre/devices/usbms/driver.py", line 388, in write_prefix IOError: [Errno 30] Read-only file system: u'/media/Kindle_/metadata.calibre' I did recently add the Barnes & Noble and FictionDB search plugins and the Generate Cover, Manage Series, and Resize Cover plugins around the time the AP and BBC downloads stopped working. Could there be any connection? Last edited by charlessmall18; 05-12-2012 at 03:01 AM. |

If Linux mounts your file system as "read only", that means that it's detected errors in it. Have you been unplugging your Kindle from your PC without properly dismounting it first?
You need to fix the errors in the file system. BTW, you're better off asking Calibre questions in the Calibre forum; this is much more of a Calibre question than a Kindle one. |
