Author & Title Sorting
Hi all
I am a beginner with Calibre and I find it great but confusing as well. My Main difficulty is this: A lot of my books are parts of series with author names like 'Julian May - Galactic Milieu 03' now all the text from the '-' should really be on the end of the Titles as this causes the author sort to sort by the number on the end. I have had a look at the search and replace but cant figure out a way to take this part off the author and on to the Title. Can anyone help please. ![]() Mike |

Try this:- (Do test with 2 or 3 books first)....
1) Select the books whose author's name you want to split 2) Press "E" on kybd 3) Select Search and replace tab 4) Select authors in Search field: 5) Enter exactly .+ - (that is dot plus space dash space) in the Search for: field Look down in the Test text/Test result area and confirm the split. On the left (Test text) should be the FULL author name as is now and on the right (Test result) should be just the title.... Don't do anything else YET. Confirm, confirm, confirm. Now step six.... 6) Select "title" in Destination field: Recheck Do it with 2 or 3 files first till you have it RIGHT. When you are happy with the result of your SMALL test do the REAL conversion.... BE VERY CAREFULL as you can destroy your library with this procedure. If you have the disc space backup your library onto another hard disc or external.... first. You should be backing up before ANY complex process anyway.... BE CAREFULL ![]() |

OBTW, make sure your search mode is set to "Regular Expression"!
This process will save you LOTS of time when compared with doing it manually BUT please, please, please check your results BEFORE pressing "OK" because there is NO UNDO!!!! Good luck and enjoy ![]() |

Note: this takes 3 passes of S&R (because S&R only does 1 field at a time) Pass 1: COPY the series NAME (no numbers, no brackets) to the Series Name field. (you must have a the name before setting the number) Pass 2: (I prefer copy vs move) COPY the Series number to Series_Index Pass 3: clean up (remove from) all the series info the source field ![]() |

Thanks to you both.
I had to alter the destination field as I didnt want it added to titles after all ! so I set it for series. that more or less worked but I still had to edit the series number etc. But got it just how I want it now so thanks ![]() |
