The entire product release sell-out for any new type of electronic seems to be much more of a marketing scheme than any actual product shortage anymore.

I have no idea how well the new iPAD is selling but I'd bet the farm they devised a plan to put a two week backorder up on the website at least briefly months ago. At this point they almost have to. If they don't all the tech blogs would be writing articles wondering WHY the newest iPAD didn't sell out.

If you try and order it from Apple.com there is a 2-3 week wait before any model ships. While not as backlogged as the iPad 2 was initially, I would say that it was a successful launch.

I think sales will be less than before because they'd have pre-saturated part of their own market with all the people who are content with their ipads 1 and 2.

Unless of course, the market has grown enough to compensate for that.

I can make a product, sell it, and say it's backlogged for 2 weeks. I get 100 orders a week, and make sure my factory makes 50 a week. See, backlogged.

Who knows. My hubby is really into knowing the latest news and he wasn't sure that it had been released as yet.

Personally, I'm waiting for the sub$500 retina screen iPad that can fit in my purse and never shatter.

I posted this in the "Is Apple betting the farm on the new iPad" thread, but it looks like people there have gone in the usual discussion about the evils of Apple.

I'll quote the same thing (source):

Based on U.S. iPad Traffic data, Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry believes that the new iPad might not be as hot as the iPhone 4S. “Developers think that http://labs.chitika.com/ipad/ is a good reflection of U.S iPad Traffic Breakdown and is probably accurate,” he wrote in a report late Sunday evening. “We don't know how the global launch is coming.”

“The Chitika site points out that about 4.48% of application traffic is coming from the new iPad,” Chowdhry continued. “The converged view is that if the new iPad was as successful as the iPhone 4S launch, the traffic from the new iPad should have been 12% - 15% of the application traffic within 48 hours, and it is not, which probably indicates a softer adoption for the new iPad.”

All signs point to lower sales. Mind you this is "iPad level" lower sales, so it is likely that the sales are much better than those of any single Android tablet on the market.

You claimed that Apple is creating the backlog, the onus is on you to prove it. So do you have evidence, or are you just making crap up?

If you would have read the article linked in the OP, you would have come across this:

Indeed, Boy Genius Report offered the news that it had called a dozen Apple stores and learned that all had some sort of new iPad inventory in their stock rooms.

The new iPad didn't sell out. If new iPads are available the only reason for a backlog is to manipulate the market.
