Conversion -> mobi -> Share
When outputting for mobi there is an option about sharing the resulting ebook and a warning saying this disables last read syncing.
What _exactly_ does last read syncing mean? There seem to be at least 2 kinds of syncing, one dependent on a link to Amazon and one not dependent. Does this warning mean it will not seek the Amazon dependent sync or that henceforth bookmarks, etc., are forever not available for that book? I really don't much care for the one that has to run ask Amazon anyway. Non-Amazon syncs are good. |

hover over that option with mouse and an explanatory box appears.
Amazon can sync last read page across multiple devices but only for books bought from amazon. There is no such feature for non-amazon books AFAIK. Think about it - it can only work if every device talks real-time ( via wi-fi) to one central server in order to query / update last page read. Last edited by cybmole; 04-21-2012 at 12:43 PM. |

In addition to the above comments... also note that there is no such thing as "non-Amazon syncing" with Amazon devices/apps. Whether it be purchased ebooks, emailed personal documents, or side-loaded content... syncing (furthest page read, bookmarks, highlights, & annotations) and facebook/twitter sharing all require a device/app that's registered to an Amazon account and has an internet connection. It all has to "run and ask Amazon" or it just doesn't happen.

Please note that I clearly asked and particularly marked the question "_EXACTLY_ what is last read syncing" or for that matter just "Syncing" and have not had an answer. I've never heard what it does precisely. It seems to actually be at least partially different on Kindle for PC than it is on a the Kindle device. And I am right this minute looking at a disconnected/wireless-off Kindle that marked a last read and recovered it afterwards. The last read thing keeps going automatically on both Kindle and Kindle for PC - so why is there a separate button for Syncing on them? On Kindle for PC is says "Sync and check for new items. What kind of new items? Something I didn't even know I just paid cash for? Something that landed from Mars? Anybody know? I'm beginning to think nobody knows exactly what Sync does. Certainly no one has told me. |

"synching" - if you need a definition- get a dictionary.
if you want to know what the word means in Amazon kindle context - go to the Amazon Kindle help pages. PS I know exactly what sync means in Kindle for PC , but I'm not going to type in an explanation for such a rude and lazy poster. PPS I should know better than to feed this troll also. - still the sigil board is peaceful now that he's moved here. TIP - open Kindle for PC - click on HELP - that was not so hard was it? click on Synchronisation. STILL KEEPING UP? - good . Now RTFM http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cust...0508510&#ksync Last edited by cybmole; 04-22-2012 at 08:45 AM. |

The question
Is ANYBODY here able to give honest answers to honest questions instead of going into nasty attacks?
I have never been lazy and I explained my situation over on Sigil - which brought a barrage of more nasty attacks. If I were lazy I wouldn't be digging for clearer explanations than the helps give (or the kindly worded "RTFM" - children's talk). And I certainly wouldn't put up with the vicious attacks of people who can't stand to be disagreed with. I doubt there's anyone on this forum who actually believes I don't know the general definition of sync, so why make the accusation? And there are probably quite a few who know that the term has specific definitions used by a lot of different people in a lot of different ways. At least I can't believe that no one here can grasp the fact that the official "check for new stuff" leaves a lot of room for explanation. So if there's anyone here who can reply with normal talk instead of attacks I really would appreciate it. |

"I'm beginning to think nobody knows exactly what Sync does"
Yes - we are all FAR TOO STUPID to help you; we can't explain it in baby-speak for you :-) "What kind of new items?" - new items on Amazon servers of course, ( either bought from amazon or sent to amazon via your registered Kindle email address, if you have one) This has already been explained. Do try to read the answers. "that the official "check for new stuff" leaves a lot of room for explanation." - so phone amazon. & have them explain, even though there's a perfectly good explanation on their help pages, as per previously posted link. sync= query amazon servers for information not already on your device & download anything more up-to-date than what you already have & now it's kill file time.
