Managing different editions of the same book
I'm looking for a way to combine two different editions of the same book into one entry in calibre. I of course want to keep both files. Is there a way to do this? How do you guys manage different editions? Do you even have the problem?

I always use two Calibre records for this. Calibre only allows a single instance of a given format to be associated with a single record so you cannot attach both editions to the same record.

For most such books I use two Calibre records as well. However, just for a few of them (where I wouldn't usually browse through the older editions but still don't feel like deleting) I added the older editions packed as .rar archives.
You have to be careful about it, though. If I remember correctly, Calibre will recognize e.g. a .pdf in a .rar or .zip file and overwrite your other file of this format (because, as itimpi has already mentioned, only a single instance of a given format is allowed). To prevent it, you need more files in the archive (preferably of different formats, e.g. an additional empty .txt file). Before you try this, copy all your files to a location outside of Calibre, just in case. |
