Exclamation Free (Kindle KDP) Tread Softly On My Dreams by Gretta Browne [Irish Historical Drama]

The good stuff in the KDP Select exclusive-or-else slushpile is repeats (but they're high-quality repeats which have been previously title-featured, in case you missed them earlier).

So for today's feature selection, I defaulted to the most promising and Relevant To My Interests item (actually, I think the medieval Black Death thing looks more appealing, but it's self-pub from an established author and this one's genuine multiply-printed backlist which someone besides the author's friends & family & any lingering fans has actually read), which is an historical drama set during one of the Irish rebellions, which seems to have gotten decent newspaper praise and looks reasonably interesting.

As the Irish Times quote puts it: "Although I started off thinking this would be a love story, an incredible tale of political corruption began to unfold."

Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

Tread Softly On My Dreams by previously-included Gretta Curran Browne, who seems to be yet another backlist author who has yet to master the intricacies of the capslock key as it applies to entering her book's title in the Amazon listings, was originally published by Hodder's Headline imprint in 1991 and subsequently picked up for reprint by one Wolfhound in 1998.

Description
The Emmets were Protestants, belonging to the elite society of Ireland’s ruling class. Born in 1778, Robert Emmet was the gentle and diffident youngest son of the State Physician of Ireland, growing up in the heart of a prosperous and loving family, one of the most respected in Dublin city. From his parents ge acquired a deep love of Ireland and a commitment to justice. From his brother Thomas he acquired an understanding of the divisions and inequalities of his country.

It was in the historic year of 1798 that Robert’s life changed from its charted course to one of rebellion. A brilliant student at Trinity, he cast aside all hopes of a scientific career, all the privileges of his class, to join the United Irishmen – a society dedicated to the union of Protestant and Catholic. After the bloody ’98 Rebellion, Robert was forced to flee to France. But even as his boat sailed away from his beloved homeland, he looked back and knew he would return – to the cause of his country’s liberty, and to the beautiful girl he had fallen in love with, Sarah Curran, the daughter of Ireland’s most talented lawyer.

He returned – and met Anne Devlin, a wild and brave Catholic country girl, who became his most devoted and loyal companion.

Set against the background of the beauty of Ireland, the dark clouds of its past, as well as the humour and dreams of its people, this is a passionate and powerful true story of three young people, Robert Emmet, Anne Devlin, and Sarah Curran, drawn together in love, in hope, and tragedy.

No non-repeat sf/fantasy/speculative today, but we do have some interesting historical/period thrillers and a few romances for the romance readers. And people interested in English shipwrecks get a real treat today.

Harlequin-published Karen Rose Smith returns with a contemporary romance: Nathan's Vow (Search For Love)

Diane Amos offers her romantic comedy/chick-lit adventure which riffs on reality TV-type contests, originally out from Five Star Expressions in 2005: Winner Takes All

Zebra-published Doreen Owens Malek offers a contemporary romantic suspense which the blurb says was originally published in 1986: Montega's Mistress

If you're into exploring shipwrecks, Peter Mitchell offers his 1986 small-pressed: The Wrecker's Guide To South West Devon

Mark Graham offers his 1988 Henry & Holt-published political conspiracy thriller set in South Africa: The Harbinger

Orion and Severn House-published Jeannie Johnson offers a medieval historical drama/suspense thriller set during the Black Death which, apparently, is entered into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest for this year: The Plague Ship

Another one of these graphic novels for your collection: IT'S MURPHY'S LAW (APP BOOK) (JAZAN WILD'S FUNHOUSE OF HORRORS)

Lachesis-published J.M. Griffin offers an urban fantasy mystery (may be comedic and/or romantic): Faerie Cake Dead (The Luna Devere Series) Her other official Lachesis-published novel is free in multiple stores and I should go put up an official separate freebie thread for it later.

Lynn Reynolds has had a book out from The Wild Rose Press and offers a contemporary romance with a touch of suspense: Love Capri Style

Kathy Pratt has also had a book out from The Wild Rose Press and offers a contemporary romance, an historical adventure set during the California Gold Rush, and a literary/general fiction personal drama about confronting religious child abuse, and a medical thriller: Linkage for the lot

Imajin Books offer an historical western adventure romance from Alison Bruce: Under a Texas Star

Iain Edward Henn claims to have had short fiction published in various outlets and that his murder suspense/conspiracy thriller novel was a Quarterfinalist for the Amazon Breakthrough Award, so if you want to try a probably-vetted indie: The Delta Chain

Malcolm Lyon's Christian historical fiction drama set in ancient Roman Africa seems to have come out from a small press in 2006 and he quotes blurb praise from religious outlets for it, and I like ancient Roman historicals in general and this one has a dragon on the cover, so if you're interested: The Bronze Ladder

Significant backlist repeats from A.A. Attanasio, Lee Killough, Paul Pinn, I.J. Parker. Other backlist repeats from Vickie Britton, fellow MR member author Paul Levine. Established author self-pubs from David Bishop, Derek Clendening, DeAnna Knippling. New & repeat freebies from Books We Love/BWLPP.

Happy reading, if you manage to spot something you think you might like, or your scuba-diving trip to South Devon has just gotten some new ideas.

ETA: to go with the boat theme, Christine Kling's 2002-Ballantine-published female captain amateur sleuth mystery/thriller: Surface Tension (Seychelle Sullivan)

Sure why not, the blurb sounded good.

For anyone else collecting I.J. Parker's Sugawara Akitada series, today's was #8, The Masuda Affair. As mentioned above these are repeats, but I just started collecting them so they are new for me.

Yeah, I got it, too. Perhaps I'm just bored today....

Thanks.
