Install, Uninstall, move apps

Hi there,

first of all I wanted to congratulate for the good work, doing in this forum, on the wiki and working on modified homescreens. Keep the great work up.

I own a PRS_T1 which I rooted 2 months ago, but didnt really had enough time to play with it.
Now I am willing to erase the root package and reinstall one, that is customized to my needs.

So my question:
To delete apps from the minimal package (western) i can simply delete the apk files from sdcard\updates\data\app before installing, right?
i was thinking of deleting:
-AnySoftKeyboard, Barshortcuts_1.1.3, ColorDict_3.0.5, com.citc.colors_14, ebookdroid_1.2.1, FBReaderJ, Gallery3DFroyo, Term

and installing some apps recommended from the wiki

(would love to have wikipedia, dropbox, gmail, Link2SD, maybe modified homescreen)

Can I simply copy the .apk file to this directory (sdcard\updates\data\app) before rooting?

Thanks for your help!

You will have to alter the checksum file if you remove any apk, otherwise the whole root package will be rejected...

If there is no checksum for an apk, it is ok, but if there is a wrong checksum for an apk or if there is a checksum without corresponding apk, then it won't work.

Yes. Single checksums are only checked if present in checksum file.

But you can easily add checksums for any file you want to add to the package, just use a MD5 checksum generator like Hashtab and be sure that the checksum is lower case.
