Sony just can't hold on to that ball, can they.
Sorry, I just need to ven. Bought the WSJ this morning, sync, double check that its on the reader cause I've been burned before.
Copy some pictures to the library and go to sync them, but uncheck "Periodicals" since I've already synced those. Get on the train and surprise, no newspaper. That s#it makes no sense to me and I'm constantly screwed over by their app, which won't let you manage files manually. There's a reason Apple is kicking everyones behind. Their products make sense. Oy... |

And then I know plenty of people who'll say the exact contrary about Apple, because they're not used to the itunes eco-system. -- Myself, I *hate* anything "Sync" be it from Apple, Microsoft, Sony, ... each has its own hierarchy of what overrides what and the potential to remove things you didn't want removed.
I use Calibre for most of my T1 interaction (except for firmware updates and such). It's not as "simple", but it's really consistent. |

Sync doesn't mean just to add content to your ereader. It can also delete content. It synchronizes (or matches) the content in the sync list in the Sony software with the content on your ereader. If you unchecked the Periodicals box, then you told it that you didn't want Periodicals on your ereader anymore and that they should be deleted. If you wanted pictures and periodicals, then you should have had both boxes checked.

Yeah, I understand now that that's how it works. But the user shouldn't have to adapt to the software. The software should make sense from the getgo, you know, to make the user's life easier.
So why not make the sync do what 90% of people unfamiliar with it would guess it does, and why not keep the manual drag and drop option in for those that want to manage stuff themselves. iTunes lets you manage the library manually and not force doing everything for you onto you. And if I uncheck a section from sync, wouldn't that tell the software I don't want anything done with it? So if I already have the item on my reader, and uncheck sync, why does it disappear from teh reader. Counterintuitive in my book. Last edited by fafaforza; 04-03-2012 at 10:49 AM. |

Actually, it's not. A check means yes, I want it and if I already have it, leave it be. Not checked means I don't want it and if it's there, remove it. It makes perfect sense.

Sync == Synchronize == "at this current time, have both items be the same".

But regardless of the sync feature in any app, I'd prefer to copy stuff myself. But I don't see a way of dragging files or right clicking to select 'send to reader'. If it exists, and I'm just missing it, someone please tell me. I might just try to find an older reader app to reinstall. Last edited by fafaforza; 04-03-2012 at 01:33 PM. |

It does work like iTunes. If you uncheck app syncing then you aren't syncing. However if you do have sync turned on, then if you uncheck individual apps then they won't be synced. Just like you can check or uncheck specific music or videos or TV shows etc. If they are unchecked from your sync list then they would be deleted from your Apple device.

Your ereader shows up as a disk drive in Windows Explorer / Mac Finder. Just drag and drop items to it if you want to manually transfer items. You didn't specify which version of Reader software you are using. Since your profile says you have a 650 you could go to the Sony support website and download the old Reader Library software which gives you more manual control. The new Reader for PC software forces you to sync and took away manual transfer unfortunately. Hope that helps!

Yeah, I can drag and drop but I always forget which folder Sony uses to store the files and I don't want to scatter stuff all around.
Do you have a link for an older version? Most companies, and apparently Sony included, don't asily volunteer older versions and I want to avoid using mediafire and other such sources. |

Sony's software is bad but at least you can simply move and remove files on the reader using it as a simple external drive. Nothing easier than that. Last edited by CommonReader; 04-04-2012 at 09:56 AM. |

The old software is on the Sony support website.
