Kindle 8 cover smaller / MobiUnpack

Ok, so my cover is smaller in the Previewer for Fire than for the regular Kindle (there is space around it). If I use the gen 1 Kindlegen, it is normal size.

So it must be part of Kindle 8, either how it's processed, or how it's packed.

I used the MobiUnpack tool (great to have that available) and I'm not sure if I see anything in the fileset that would make a difference. The image files are the same size, etc.

Here is one entry in the OPF that IS different:
<meta name="K8(129)_Masthead/Cover_Image" content="kindle:embed:0001" />

But maybe it's not the files? Maybe's its how the Kindle software acts after it determines you using 8 files?

Anyone have an idea?

Perhaps the 1024 x 600 pixel screen vs. the 800 x 600 screen on Kindle is causing it to be smaller. How big is the original cover?

The original cover is 2000 x 1250.

I don't think that is the issue, as kindlegen resizes the cover to 1270x794, both for the old format and for the new 8 format (there are 2 sets of files in the mobi). When I open the mobi file then open in the Kindle full screen, but in the Fire with a margin around it.

So it definitely has to either be something specified in the '8' files, or, and I'm thinking more likely, the Kindle software treats the '8' cover differently.
