Reading the book at home and the ebook on the road.

How many like myself find still buying certain books and reading them at home and taking your reader with you to work on the bus, train, breakroom, etc to continue reading where you left off in the paper/hard edition?

I love the Everyman's Library editons and will buy both the e-version and edition of the same translation of a given book and use both.

That's double-silly. Why would you buy both ebook and print?

I'm a book collector, so I do it all the time.

For example, I collect Haruki Murakami in English hardback First Edition, as well as Mario Vargas Llosa, to name just two writers.

My main emphasis is Modern Firsts, with over 2,000 books in my collection.

I, like Dr. Drib am a book collector. I don't buy two of everything I read. I do buy that one that I want to collect. Sometimes I feel the desire to have a book in my hand so I get one to read. Carrying it around is like carrying the dictionary around so I get the e-book too.

I don't see that is silly. If I choose to buy something twice, its my money to spend. Lets not even go to how many times people have bought the same movie on Beta, VHS, LD, DVD and now Blu-ray.

My problem is tracking your progress, especially if you end in a spot that's not easily discernible (i.e. end of a chapter).

Yes, my mistake. I hope that I will start my book collection soon. I'm out of paper.

I don't buy two of the same book, but I do often read a paper book at home. I always have my Reader with me on the train and at work - and just about every time I leave the house, but I never leave the house with a paper book. Just too cumbersome.

It's actually gotten quite ridiculous, too. I listen to an audiobook as I drive to the train station and on the first train. Then I switch over to another train, where I ride for an hour to work. I read my Reader on that train. Then as I leave that station and walk to work, I'm back on the audiobook on my phone. Then when I go to the restroom throughout the day, I read a third book on my phone. I read a hardcover at home in the evenings when I get home.

Crazy, but there are different functions and utilities for each, so I adapt.

I am afraid I have reached the stage of finding paper books a nuisance. I left my ereader on the bus (some wonderful person turned it in but I was without for a week) and I read a paper book for a few hours but found I was happier reading on my old ugly laptop even in bed or an armchair.

Takes all kinds I know and when I go into a bookstore to buy a gift I am hit with severe nostalgia, but... I know I won't read it and due to my packrat nature I really really try not to collect anything.

Something but not quite.

I collect books, too. I've found myself reading a book at home and then suddenly realizing I want to read it while away, too. Great thing is that I can buy on the road! I've even bought while on vaca.

There's nothing wrong with having two copies. ;-) Some of my favorite books I have 2 or more copies.

Question

I just do it all the time - I find it particularly helpful when a book I wish to read hasn't yet, or may never, be issued as an ebook.....

Then, you see, I am able to read it.

As I have not been given my inalienable right of Consumer Choice, which is a Bad Thing.

'Cept, of course, if I didn't want to read it, I could choose not to do so.......

Or not....

I prefer to read on my Kindle so the only time I read paper books is when I have no choice in the matter.

I wouldn't do what you describe because it would be too much of a pain to sync my reading place.

I did that once with one book, Persuasion. I didn't have an e-ink reader at the time. So while at work or somewhere else that wasn't my home, I would read it on my iPod Touch. However, while at home, I would read the hardback copy I brought from B&N. Now that I have an e-ink reader, I just read a book from start to finish on the e-reader or as a p-book.

I just use the search function with the Reader. With the book, I just use a common paragraph.
