I was asked by a friend, who I didn't realise had a reader (Kobo, but she can't be perfect) if I knew about a " good ereader forum ", and I naturally enthused about MR for a few hours - but when she got a word in said "No, that's the forum title".....
Anyway, the long and the short of it is this result ...... "We are the largest E-reader forum on the internet" Herrumph..... ![]() The aforesaid piece of ...k was, to be charitable, boringly poor. [ Amusingly, or is that sadly, an awful lot of the "contributions" seemed to come from the same few names.... ] 'Aving a larf, ent they ? Anyway, soon put her right on that, I hope..... Am I the last one to hear of this ? |

They are far from well-liked in some corners of the ebook blog community. (Apparently they have had some attribution issues from time to time. To put it politely.)

I'm not quite sure I follow you.
You are asking if we've heard of the "Good Ereader Forum" (http://goodereader.com by the way) and if we know what the justification is for them claiming to be "the largest ereader forum on the internet?" Personally, I hadn't, and I don't, and glancing at their home page, I don't see where they make that claim. Last edited by ApK; 04-02-2012 at 01:57 PM. |

From what I understand the story goes like this: carpetmojo thought that his friend was asking about a good ereader forum, but his friend was asking about the Good Ereader Forum. So he found out that goodereader.com claims to be the largest ereader forum on the internet and he is asking us if we ever heard about this claim before.

According to their stats, they have some 8000 plus regustered users, of which 420 odd are active. How can any claim that they are the largest ereader forum possibly be substantiated? Just look at the MR stats

I checked them out awhile ago. They may have a lot of members but they don't participate much.

In any case, if carpetmojo posted an accurate quote: "We are the largest E-reader forum on the internet" then it's easily true. They spelled internet with a small i. I have my home wifi network bridged to my neighbors. That's an internet. In that context, I can rightfully claim to have the largest ebook collection on the internet. ![]() |

They were a pirate site for ebooks. If I remember correctly, they said it wasn't intentional, it was the work of one or two moderators. They then split off the pirate portion of the forum.

No, not technically. It's two separate networks with data routed between them. That's an internet.
If I run Internet-like services, like a web site, for my own internal network use only (which I do, actually, in the form of Calibre's content server, and my web-based network management system), THAT's an intranet. Last edited by ApK; 04-02-2012 at 03:33 PM. |
