Question Using calibre to access calibre

I've got a use case I haven't seen described anywhere else, and am wondering if it's possible.

I have my main calibre machine, which is always on, handling recipes and serving the results. On my work laptop (mac), I use calibre as my ePub viewer. I don't want to sync my entire library to my work machine, but do want to download articles to read during my commute. I can do that via a web browser, but it's awkward and slow.

Ideally, I'd like to access my server from the laptop calibre interface, so I can search and select based on metadata, not just title or publisher. In some ways, I'd like to treat my main calibre as a store in my laptop version, but I haven't seen anything like that mentioned.

Any existing solutions to this sort of use case? If not, is the "store approach" a good fit?

Thanks!
Hal

A client-server Calibre...hmmm...would be pretty cool, actually . But no, you can't do that. I don't know if it's on the roadmap for after the database backend rewrite; perhaps Kovid will chime in on that.

The content server is as close to it as you'll get right now.
