Questions on How to Read and Deal with BIG PDF Files?? Help Please.

Hey all,

This is the one thing I have not tried and am unsure of.

I have a few books and documents that are rather large (in number of pages, NOT size of file) that I would like to have on my Fire and read. I know that the Fire has support for PDF files already built in, but I have read that it's not that great. I haven't used it yet so I don't know.

What is the best way to get the PDF files onto my Fire and read them? I also use Calibre and have had good luck with it, but a lot of these PDF files I have can't be converted to MOBI and transferred as they are unreadable, or look really bad. That leaves me to use other options.

I know Amazon has a service where you can email a PDF to your Fire and they will "convert" it for you to use on your Fire. What do you think of this method? If I do this, where will it end up on my Fire, in the DOCUMENTS or BOOKS tab? All of the books I have transferred to my Fire using Calibre end up my the DOCUMENTS folder, but show up on my Fire in the BOOKS section, doesn't make sense, but it works.

Or should I hook it up and transfer the file manually to whatever folder it belongs in? If I do this, I am guessing it would belong in the DOCUMENTS folder. If I put it here, will it show up in the BOOKS section or the DOCUMENTS section? I'd rather have them show up with the other BOOKS I have loaded on the Fire, but this is not that important.

Or should I use Calibre to transfer it to the Fire and just allow Calibre to put it wherever the default location is for Calibre?

The last thing is should I get another APP to read them? I have read that the best PDF reader is an APP called EZPDF or something like that. I'd know it when I see it, I just can't remember exactly what the name of the APP is right now.

Sorry for all the posting and such, I just want to know what the best way to load and read these PDF books and documents on my Fire.

Thanks for your time and help.

Try letting Amazon do it, it'll end up in your documents. If you don't like it, you can just delete it and do it manually with EZPDF/Calibre.

Page count shouldn't really matter, it's the PDFs that are jam packed with embeds that are the big issue.

I never was happy with the results of converting PDF conversion, Amazon, calibre, Google. For me the best solution is to hand convert the file or use an app that us designed for reading PDFs.
Personally I use both ezPDF and Repigo for reading PDFs.
Repligo has a faster engine so it is better at reading larger files or graphic intensive files. ezPDF has more fluid reading experience.

Just use Adobe Reader on your PC. The latest firmware, version 6.3, for the Kindle Fire upgraded its PDF capabilities. However, large files probably will not work correctly there.

Acrobat has a 'reduce file size' feature. That or an equivalent tool, may be worth having in your toolkit. Depending on the origin, PDFs can be much larger than they need to be, and file size can be reduced significantly (90% sometimes) without any loss of quality.
