Are Kobo PC app books saved to PC?
I bought a book from Kobo but have had trouble downloading it typical way using the Adobe DRM download button. I always get an error and it doesn't show up in my list and the file in the Digital editions folder is corrupted. Usually I add those books to Calibre and then put them on my Sony Reader. The book is synced to the Kobo app and works fine from there. I was wondering if they are also downloaded to the PC somewhere so I can add them to Calibre like I normally can do with my Sony Store or Kindle bought ebooks. Could someone tell me where the books are saved if indeed they are?

You need to have ADE installed on the PC. When you click the Adobe DRM download button, a link opens for an acsm file, select save and when you click on it, ADE should open and load your book.
To get it into Calibre go to My Documents--> My Digital Editions folder, the epub (or pdf) is there. If that's not working, I would uninstall and then re-install ADE. They are not stored anywhere else. What error are you getting and at what point in the process? I am assuming that you are trying to download from the Kobo website and clicking the Adobe DRM download button there from your description. If you are have installed and are using the desktop app, then what taming says applies... Last edited by Cdesja5; 06-06-2012 at 09:26 PM. Reason: origin of book |

Kepub books (that is ePUBs in the proprietary Kobo format) are in your appdata folder, with an address something like this: C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub
If your non-kepub book also does NOT have Adobe DRM (is a drm free ePUB) then it may be in your download folder. I am not sure what you are really asking though, so maybe try rewording your question... |

Yesterday I bought a book and while the Kobo Desktop downloaded it fine, ADE gave me an error 2038. I reported it to Kobo support and laughingly enough was told to deinstall / reinstall Kobo Desktop and to try a different brower.
Before doing either of those, I retried the download this morning and it worked like a charm. So maybe wait a day and try again ![]() |

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I usually do what Cdesja5 mentioned in his post. However this time when i bought the book I forgot that I had my VPN program going at the time and the download was going really slow. When I turned off the VPN, the download failed. I tried to restart the download but got this error:

Anyways I'm going to look in the location that taming suggested and see if I can add the file to Calibre directly from there. I'll let you know what happens! Thanks! |

Hmm, it seems I can't add kepubs to Calibre like I can with Kindle or Sony or Kindle books downloaded using ADE.
Any other suggestions? |

Another idea. Download and install Sony's software. You can use that to open the .acsm and download the book instead of ADE. Don't know if it'll make a difference, but it might be worth a shot.

Kepub files only work on Kobo devices/apps. If the book has any flavour of Adobe DRM, you have to open it with ADE, unfortunately. I have uninstalled ADE using a 3rd party uninstaller in the past. It might be worth a shot doing that as standard installers can leave bits and pieces behind. I have had weird things happen with ADE. "Broken" downloads that resulted in messages within ADE about resuming downloads that had successfully happened long ago, for example. |

Seems like it must be a corrupt file hiding on my computer somewhere as I downloaded the book through ADE on another computer just fine. Annoying to say the least. If I delete the files from my main ADE folder then that should be all I need to do to reset things. I don't want to have to go digging around my computer looking for some corrupted file in some obscurely named hidden folder damn you Adobe!

If you have the acsm links saved someplace, try deleting them first--before you delete the books. That "pointer" may be corrupt.
