Bought an eBook for someone else - it won't open on their Kindle
I bought a Kindle for a friend and bought an eBook for them. However, it does not open on their Kindle, because of something about it being associated with MY account.
But I don't want the eBook, I bought it for them. They don't have an amazon account because they are underage and do not have the credit card to set it up. What can I do? How can I give them the Kindle as a gift WITH the ebook on it? Please let me know if you can help! Thanks! |

They have to have an Amazon account for their Kindle to be useful. You should have sent it as a gift. They can fund their account with gift cards, if they don't have a credit card. If you just downloaded it for your Kindle and emailed it to them, it won't work because of DRM - it is encoded for your Kindle.

This is such a shame (and kind of irritating) -
One of his parents has an Amazon account, so perhaps he can register his kindle through them to access all the features of the Kindle - though I don't know if his parents want him to have such easy access to their Amazon account and the potential to spend all their money! Do you know if it is possible to register but restrict buying through the Kindle? It's a shame that he might have to re-purchase this book that I have encoded for my Kindle, which I have and am not going to read! Such a waste.... |

You could register his Kindle to your Amazon account and send the ebook you bought for him to his Kindle. After downloading the ebook to his Kindle you can deregister his Kindle from your Amazon account and the content will remain on his Kindle.

No, it is not possible to register but restrict buying.

If there is no credit card associated with the new account you create for your friend they won't be able to make purchases without providing a card # at the time of the purchase. |

One more thing, do you think the ebook will remain if they decide to register the Kindle to another account? |

One option nobody has mentioned is for you to strip the DRM and then you could load it onto this Kindle and it would be readable.
Look out in the great beyond for Apprentice Alf. |
