Small difference in display with ADE
Hi
I noticed a small difference between Sigil and ADE for the display of dropcaps. I have about 35 of them, and I can say it's a consistent behaviour. The dropcap displayed by ADE is about 0.3 em higher than the same displayed by Sigil, everything else being equal. I have no idea which side is right, if even there is one. So, I had to make a choice. It was ADE for compatibility purposes. Life as usual? ![]() edit: top one is ADE's. Other is Sigil's Last edited by roger64; 04-01-2012 at 03:50 AM. |

I'm a firm believer that Sigil's Book View should only ever be considered a "first line of defense," so to speak. A quick, visual indicator that things are generally going as planned. The final test should always be as many actual devices/apps as possible. If that's not feasible... ADE will have to suffice.

Indeed, that's what I did.
Here is the "dropcap book" I've just uploaded, if somebody wants to check it. Last edited by roger64; 04-01-2012 at 08:39 AM. |

What DiapDealer said plus...
... Both are "right". There are a number of differing rendering engines and none can be considered any more correct that the others. ADE is the dominate engine. Apple's iBooks might be 2nd, but a very distant 2nd. Designs should be done with an eye to producing decent results on all common devices and apps. Unfortunately, good proofing tools don't exist for ePub so the most practical best practice is to aim for proper display in ADE. Sigil and calibre's Ebook-Viewer are reasonable tests if you understand that they are outliers and you are only expecting non-horrible results with their rendering. |

There are differences.
I tend to compromise when one looks really wrong, and pick values close to the middle (slight lean to ADE side for reasons given above) , so neither is really quite right, but passable. |
