Kindle Touch "Laggy"

I've owned my Kindle Touch for about 6 weeks now. I've recently had a period where the touch has been laggy for a few days – not only laggy i.e. select a book and it would take a while to display the text but also on a few occasions would just go back to what I can only think of as a reboot screen (the person under the tree).

The thing is I had not connected to Amazon via wireless for about a month – but did so last night, and the problems seem to have disappeared. Just wondering that as my Kindle has ads – does it need to get in touch with the mother ship occasional, and if not gives the above effects – or is there a fault with the device?

Anyone else had this problem?

Had you loaded a ton of books on there recently? I'm wondering if maybe you're getting shafted with indexing, or something.

And, to get the new ads, you'll need to touch bases with "the mother ship". But, I don't know if maybe there was a firmware update (which could have/would have come when you connected to Amazon) that rectified any issues that you were having.

I've only got about 10 books on there, so don't think it was that. Might just keep an eye on it, and see if it shows the same symptoms after being disconnected from Amazon for a similar period of time.

I would restart the Kindle via the menu. If that doesn't help, a Factory Reset. Since you have very few books on the Kindle, it won't be a big deal for you.

It could be indexing. On the home screen, type some gibberish as if you were searching. If anything comes up, you have one or more books that isn't indexed. Remove the book, and the problem should be solved, and then you can download the book again.

You may simply have gotten the newest firmware update while you were online. The KT has been gradually getting "better" with new updates

Check your firmware version -- on the settings page, use Menu > Device Info (or so). If it's 5.0.4, then you have the newest version which has been released roughly 3 weeks ago, so it would indeed be the update which fixed things. Otherwise, I suggest to manually install it anyway.
