My 950 broke (my fault :-()...what to replace it with?
Looks like my only choice in Sony is the T1 -- am I going to be disappointed? I really like the Sony line..definitely don't want a kindle and have seen enough glitches on my daughter's nook to let me know I would not be happy with that. Soooo...I just need to be given a good talk as to how much I'll like the T1 moving from the 950. Thoughts? Comments?

Of course you will love it. The screen is smaller. It's made of cheap plastic. You don't have a place to store the stylus. It has not 3g. And you can't auto-deliver magazines and newspapers to it. What's not to love?
Jokes aside... the good... the screen looks slightly better to me (at least comparing my 950 and 350 to the two T1s I had). You have more control over fonts. It's light. It's a bit faster. Sorry, I am obviously focusing on the negatives. But I am in your same spot, and I just can't get myself to buy a T1. I bought one and returned it - it was page-skipping and freezing. Later, I got one as a present but I exchanged it for a Kindle Touch. After using a KT for a while, I am realizing that my 950 was truly the best e-reader. |

Contact Sony customer service ASAP. You may qualify for a replacement PRS-950 (refurb or even a new one) for about $100.
The T1 is a nice unit but the 950 that I had was a dream to use with its solid construction and larger screen. |

Get another 950 - with PRS+ it is far superior to any more recent e-ink product.

I have had the 350, 900 & 950 and am sad that Sony discontinued the 5 & 7 inch sizes. However, I read on my T1 more than my X50 models. Mostly because the T1 text clarity is fantastic compared to the 950. I really like the ability to change the font of your book in the menu system - very easy. The Amasis font is great. I also like being able to download books from the internet on the device, especially borrowing books from the library. It doesn't bother me that it's made from plastic. It is light. There are also many things you can do with it if you check out the developer's forum. You can install a modified homescreen with new features (kind of like PRS+ but not quite as featured). You can root it and add Android apps. I don't miss the 3G because I always am somewhere with Wi-fi. I took it to England last month and had no problem purchasing books and downloading my newspaper subscription.
What I don't like is that you have to sync with the new Reader for PC/Mac software which is far inferior to the old Reader for Library software. I gave up on that and started using calibre to manage my library. The other thing that the 950 does better is auto-delivery of newspapers. On the T1 you have to go to the Reader Store over wireless and tell it to download that day's edition. An extra annoying step! I hope they update the firmware soon. Also newspapers look better on the 950's 7 inch screen. For me the Sony firmware is what I like about their ereaders compared to the other brands. So, if you have to get a T1 to replace your beloved 950 it's not the end of the world! ![]() |

I think you made the best choice in sticking to the 950. Nice deal.

Congratulations on being able to replace the 950. My partner has one (too big for me) though I love it. I loved my 650 for the professional quality of the casing, but moved to the T-1 due to its size and weight.
