The apple community

http://www.macstories.net/stories/th...unity-part-ii/

Totally agree. I waited for the iPad 1 on launch day. I only got to the mall at about 530a & was still less than 20th or so in line. While there really isn't any reason to do it, I did have a great time & everyone was super nice. Everyone was there for the same love & passion for something & could relate. It's the same thing when I go to some cons, Megacon down here in Orlando & Star Wars celebration. Everyone is there for the same thing. People have fun together, talk about the subject & get along. I've never been around nicer people, at cons or when I was in that apple line. So while the samsung commercial is pretty funny they'll never have the same community that apple does.

& imm sure the haters will respond. That's fine. Go enjoy your product, I'll enjoy mine.

Interesting post and article but speaking personally I wish people were more outgoing and relating to each other without any product thrown in the mix. But I guess those times are over ever since tv has been available - meaning people started to spend more time in their small circles. And the impersonal safety of internet communication (hidden behind the screen) added to it. To me the community while queueing sounds nice but also a clear sign how society changed and how people still miss real human contact. If that need was provided for in another way queueing would not be such a thrilling experience.

I bought ipad1 in 2010 on the first day in Belgium and there was no community. There was a little queue but people here are quite reserved I find (I'm not Belgian) and would rather look at the ceiling or floor than chat up others.
I like Apple a lot, always did. But I passed up on ipad2 and 3. I'm saving for imac instead but hey, I remember the thrill of carrying ipad home back then. I'm typing on it now. I use it every day. Best 700€ I spent in a long time.

edit: and gee, I'd love to go to Star Wars con! Long live the Empire

Empire FTW. I've read the recent Sith inspired novels & absolutely loved them. I'm so glad they brought star wars celebration back to Orlando. I can't wait to go again this year.

This is just me, but I love my iPad and my android phone. I think its all great stuff and I've enjoyed talking with all the Apple and Android fans in my life. I agree though those Samsung commercials are kind of silly and don't reflect the lines for apple products at all.

I got my iPad 3 by getting to the mall at 4:30 am. There were about a half dozen people already there and it was very pleasant as we all had something in common. The mall opened at 5:00 and we were, subsequently, the first in line at the Apple store. Again it was very pleasant hanging around with like minded electronics addicts, er, I mean enthusiasts.

The store opened at 8:00 by which time there were 70 or so people in line behind us.

Being an Apple unConsumer, I generally don't buy Apple products because they're under spec'd and overpriced. That said, I love my 6.4GB iPod touch 4. It's the best internet radio player on the market, because it's cheap ($145) and has a ton of inexpensive after-market accessories readily available.
