inexpensive sleeves for Kindle 3 (keyboard)?
Are there any inexpensive sleeves available for the Kindle 3 (the one with the keyboard) anymore?
I used to have a cheap one that was simple and easy, but I lost it. It looked a lot like this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Forefront-Am.../dp/B004JEGKBG But when I ordered this one to replace it and it arrived, it turned out this is actually far too small. The old one had the same model, but the Kindle slipped in easily, without hassle. This one is about the same size, or even slightly *smaller* than the actual Kindle, which means it's a very tight fit and you have to wriggle to get it into the sleeve. Not what I was looking for. Are there any sleeves available that the Kindle 3 fits more easily into, that don't have a zipper (preferably) and that are available in Europe? Most of the sleeves on Amazon.com seem meant for the new Kindle models. (And the Timbuktu company has a sleeve that looks okay, but it charges 30 dollars shipping to Europe.) |

The cheapest and maybe most satisfying option actually involves a little work, an offcut of leatherette (known as naugahyde in the States I think) from a vehicle or furniture upholsterer, and a tube of glue. I made a sleeve in less than an hour, in the shape of an envelope with an open top, and it cost virtually nothing. Unique too!!

I'm not real good with scissors and glue.

Is £10 too expensive? They no longer stock the red sleeve I bought, but I think this one is exactly the same apart from the colour: E-volve reversible neoprene sleeve case cover for ebook e-reader / tablet computer
It's thicker than the cheaper sleeves (1cm thick on it's own), it's slightly bigger than the Kindle 3 (approx 1cm each side). I have my Kindle in a silicon skin and I can still use it, though it makes it a bit neater, without the skin it slides in and out very easily. |

A great place to look for inexpensive items like this is Etsy. Many of the sellers are international, so I assume that purchasers outside the US are welcome there as well. I bought a really wonderful (though expensive) custom made felt sleeve for my Boox from a German seller.

Thanks for all the tips. I wonder how the e-Volve sleeve can be compatible with so many different devices. (I'm even wondering if maybe the forefront sleeve I have will stretch with use, and if maybe the one I originally had was "too tight" to begin with as well, and I've forgotten this. But at the moment it still is really really tight. And anyway, the e-Volve's colours are nicer.)

That E-volve sleeve isn't suitable for anything smaller than the Kindle 3, when the latest Kindle was released they just added that to the title, but it's too big for the new version (the more recent reviews mention that).
I'm not sure of the dimensions of the Fire, Kindle 2 etc but it does state it suits device size up to: 21 cm x 13 cm. The Kindle 3 is about 19.5 x 12.5 so it fits in easily. Here's a couple of photos of my Kindle in it's cover (with the top of the sleeve folded back so you can see the Kindle), one with it's silicon skin on, one without. ![]() ![]() Last edited by soulfuldog; 03-17-2012 at 08:28 AM.
