Hi Louise. Welcome to the Forum.

Can't answer your question but there are plenty of friendly members on the site who can.

You can get plenty of Sony Reader 500/505 formatted ebook in the ebook section.

Also, you can purchase ebooks from online shops such as Fictionwise, BookOnBoard and whatnot in MS Reader format, use ConvertLIT to remove the DRM and convert to LRF using Book Designer or Libprs500's lit2lrf. Also, BAEN has some free books you can download and convert easily.

Welcome, Louise!

A number of e-book sites sell e-books in Sony's format... you don't have to buy strictly from the Connect bookstore. (My site, for instance... plug, plug!)

Also, there are some e-book formats that can be converted to Sony's format, using free software downloaded from Sony. The conversion might involve converting the original format to something like HTML or RTF, but if you are savvy enough to handle that, it's not hard.

(Unfortunately, I'm not at my own PC, so I can't provide any other links or software names from here. If anyone else can jump in, please do!)

(Edit: I see Jon chimed in before I finished. Good job!)

Louise, I'm in Cardiff and also have a Sony Reader.

If you like classics then check out our Book Upload section for lots of free books. Also, you can get classics online free from Manybooks and Feedbooks.

If you want something from the Sony Connect store there is a difficulty because they only accept US credit cards. But if you were given a free credit offer when you bought the Reader then you can use it up. Just ignore the screen which asks for credit card details.
There is a workaround. A forum member, Leaping Gnome, generously buys Sony Connect gift vouchers for non-USA-based members, and will accept Paypal.
