Kindle Singles Selling Very Well, Authors Even Happy

So, this is interesting, insofar as Amazon is actually releasing numbers, and also insofar as Amazon seems to have found a nice way to leverage the low costs of publishing to the Kindle.

Some of the authors are discussing their experience with the Singles here:

An interesting quote from one author:
Quote:
"Everything’s in the author’s control, down to the price. There’s copyediting but no editing. The cover process has a very quick turn-around (especially in my case, as I gave them a photograph I took), as does the ‘jacket’ copy. In both journalism and book publishing, I am accustomed to very long incubation periods during which every detail is up for debate. This has its obvious advantages, especially with a book-length work, and in my opinion that will never change. But it was refreshing to work hard on a piece of writing, declare it done, then submit it, and ship it within a few weeks."

I love the success of ther Kindle Single. Its leading to the revival of both long form journalism/essay and the fiction novella form. Kudos to Amazon here (and I'm far from an Amazon devotee).

I'm a fan as well; it's nice to find something that fits those 1-2 hour flights nicely.
