Re-creating graphics/art stripped from ebooks.

I like to convert my ebooks into html so I can fine-tune the text and formatting. But I ran across an ebook where the graphics had been stripped out when it was created. Is there a website/place I can go where people are posting the missing graphics?

I'd like to re-create the book as close to the original as possible. The book I'm referring to is The Stars my Destination by Alfred Bester. The Kindle sample I got from Amazon is all jacked up and missing a graphic that I know is in the paper book.

Scan the Graphic in your book, clean it up (de-spot, contrast adjust...) and insert into the book in the proper places.
That is what I do with Sigil
(It is amazing how many commercial e-books look nothing like their dead tree cousin )

I waited this long to buy a Kindle because I knew this was it's biggest problem. You lose a lot of warmth with ebooks, but I like putting some of it back. I usually check a paper copy or Amazon preview to see the flyleaf and chapter headings. And I've gotten pretty good re-creating them with Word, but this book is a whole other animal. I'm glad I paid attention to the ebook-version reviews.

Posting such illustrations on a website would almost certainly be a breach of copyright.

Quite likely true. The text is still copyrighted (renewed in 1984) in the US and the author's DOD being 1987 means any "Life+50/70/..." copyright is still in effect.

The copyright status of the illustrations is an open question.
