The NST has been rooted for a long time, but more recently there's a hack that toggles much faster touch and video response, making it more practical for tablet use. I'm sure it decreases battery life, but there are no "Oh, my NST died in hours" reports, and because it can be toggled, you can turn it off when you're not using it.

Thanks for posting this. I rooted my Nook Simple Touch last night, and what was a nice little reader has become absolutely wonderful!
