Free Book - Silver Lake (K/N)

Silver Lake, a 2010 Lambda Award Finalist for Best Novel by Peter Gadol, is free in the Kindle store and from Barnes & Noble.

Book Description
Robbie and Carlo have been involved professionally and personally for twenty years. Lately, though, their architectural practice and their marriage are beginning to falter.

One fall day, Tom Field, a peculiar young man, drifts into their storefront office asking to use the phone. The men get to talking; Tom is curious but enchanting, and Robbie ends up playing tennis with him that afternoon, ultimately inviting him home for dinner.

The ensuing evening involves a lot of wine and banter and then increasingly dark conversation, and when the stranger has had too much to drink, the two men insist he sleep in their guest room.

During the night, Tom commits an act of violence that shatters the couple's ordered lives—the men are forced to cope with the blossoming doubt and corrosive secrets. Each in his own way, Robbie and Carlo seek to understand the disquiet stemming from their time with Tom.

I was just previewing a post for this.

Warning: DON'T read the Publisher's Weekly review unless you want to be pre-spoilered for what look like moderately important plot revelations. They do say it's an overall decently-written story.

Whoops, I read the review and then a search here (because it sounded familiar) brought up this thread.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll forget the spoiler-y bits by the time I get around to reading it.

Hopefully it works out for you. A couple of years ago, I skimmed the introduction to the B&N Classics edition of Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe, which mentioned briefly in passing in a single sentence which of the love interests he was conflicted between that he would marry in the end, which is apparently one of the semi-major subplots of the book, and I still haven't forgotten it, even though I also haven't read the actual book at all nor seen any of the adaptations.

And meanwhile, actually useful things like how to do certain chemistry calculations without having to refer back to the textbook go straight out of my head in less than two months' time.

Does it not occur to those writing reviews that people reading them haven't read the book yet?!?!?!?! Customer reviews are fraught with peril, I skim the first sentence of those since half of them find it necessary to describe the entire plot. I didn't buy a book last week when the Pub Weekly review blabbed about the twist ending. I don't remember which book it was or what the twist was now, I guess that bodes well for me forgetting spoilers.
