This post has nothing to do with eBooks.......

.....well, maybe.

The thing is, I got burgled while I was on holiday over Christmas and the dirty rats took my iPod. I've had it for donkey's years and have never used any other type of music player, nor anything except iTunes.

So......being forced to replace the player, I've decided on a Sony Walkman Mp3 (great clarity and battery life). Now I need to sort out a new library system but there's a problem. Now that I've been using Calibre for years I'm really spoilt and I realise iTunes just doesn't cut it anymore.

I've done some surfing and seen Songbird and Mediamonkey but can't seem to find the equivalent of Calibre (with it's useful, oh so cleansing plugins) for music. Can anyone assist with a recommendation? What have I been missing out on??

Thanks,

Chris

As much as I hate iTunes there is no other real alternative that I know of.

I guess I don't understand "cleansing" plug-ins. As far as I know even Itunes has given up on DRM. It downloads in AAC, but if you highlight a song and right-click it, you can make an MP3 copy of it. Amazon has always been DRM-free, as far as music is concerned.

As far as organizing your music library and playback devices, converting formats, etc., I've heard very good things about MusicBee, but I don't use it.

I use the free version of Winamp for playback, but it's too limited to do much else. The paid version is supposed to be pretty good.

Basically, I manage my music (a 2 TB external HD, half full of WAV files) manually. I have a handful of programs to rip, play, convert, etc.

Thanks Cromag, I'll check out MusicBee. Most of my iTunes stuff is ripped CD's, so no DRM issues but some of my purchased stuff is quite old, so may need the treatment!
