Thumbs down Adding books without GUI?

Hi

I have just installed Calibre to my NAS, Synology 710+. which is intel based.
Since my NAS doesn't have display output, I had to use Xming to load up the GUI.
It works, I can add books, conver ebooks, and do the stuffs, but I don't want to run Xming every time I need an operation.
The ebooks I have already are in the NAS, so if I can do something like just importing the whole directory then the work will be easy.
The other problem of using Xming is that, if I'm not home, then I cannot add book at all.
I want to run the Calibre server and access to ebooks outside my home, add books if I get new one, and etc.
So, is there any way to add book not using GUI?
For example, I can designate a folder, and if I upload some ebooks from outside then the server will fetch it periodically.
I thought recipe might help, but looks like it is for RSS feed, not for my use.

Thanks!

The main Calibre program does monitor a (configurable) directory and auto-imports ebooks found there since version 0.8.38. Whether the server does so I don't know.

You could look at the 'calibre-db' CLI program to add books manually or through cron, if your NAS supports that.

One more question,

I used calibredb and it worked just as I wanted.
The problem is now from calibre-server.
I ran calibre-server with --daemonize option.
After I add books with calibredb, it shows the meta data of newly added book, but with no "Get" button.
If I restart the calibre-server, it does show "Get" button now.
While running calibre-server, if I add book from GUI, it is same.
But if I kill manually-ran server and run server from GUI, then it shows "Get" button immediately no matter how I added.
So looks like running calibre-server manually causes the problem.
Do you have any advice?

Thank you.

What version of Calibre are you running? I think this bug cropped up in 0.8.36 but has been fixed since then.

I'm running 0.8.39. I ran calibre-server --version and it prompts
calibre-server (calibre 0.8.39)

Any idea?

Thanks!

calibredb does not refresh calibre-server running as a standalone process, only if you run it in the GUI. IF you are running it standalone, kill and restart it yourself.

EDIT: Added code to have the standalone servers also updated by calibredb add, in next release.

So for now, I have to restart the server manually, right?
I'll wait for the release of next version! Thanks!
