"Stormship Trooper"
One of the worst Science Fiction movies of all time, made from a wonderful book about what it's like to be a soldier a hundred years or so into the future.
The author, Robert A. Heinlein had some odd political beliefs that were neither liberal or conservative. But they were his beliefs and one of the reasons he wrote books. To me the movie "Stormship Troopers" sums up everything about the unthinking, self indulgent, money grubbing attitude those of us in flyover country thinks Hollywood is like. I could have lived with merely a bad movie but they twisted Robert Heinlein's admittedly odd political beliefs into this Politically Correct mush that had no coherency and was essentially silly. Doogie Howser owes us all a personal apology. |

IMHO, most movies that are based on a pre-existing book are horrible. Not as movies per se, but compared to the book. Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy jumps into my head imediately. The movies is supposed to be good, but the book is excellent. Not sure if I even dare watch the movie, other movies based on Jack Ryan were most horrible compared to the book. Clear and Present Danger is aweful as movie especially the bad actor choice for John Kelly a.k.a. John Clark. I could not even stand to finish Patriot Games as movie. Any of those are really good as books.

Les Miserables was a great movie, I'm slowly working my way through the book (1800 for the unabridged) but the movie with Jeffrey Rush and Liam Neeson was awesome.

Both Mystic River and Shutter Island were much better than the movies made of them.

Umm! ER! Yeah!
I had just watched a Star Wars movie. You know, it is really difficult to be bouncing about in parallel universes the way us Science Fiction readers do. We sometimes forget which universe we are in.
