Resources for comic writers
Hey all,
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a friend of mine who, with a partner, is trying to get a comic off the ground. He'd like to start a website for it, including "professional reviews" (his words) and hopefully get it read or published. I'm staying out of it for the most part since it's not my project, but he asked me if I knew of any way to get some exposure for the comic and get some people to read and review it. I guess I'm asking if anyone knows of comic review websites/blogs they'd recommend as some that would be willing to review a new, unpublished comic. Or any other words of advice anyone is willing to share would be appreciated also. Thanks wonderful MRers! |

There are sites out there that mass host comics like http://www.keenspot.com/ that might be a place for him to start. He really should get on some forums where comic writers hang out and chat with them though...

He'd be better off on sites where comic readers hang out.

What sort of a comic is it?
There are an awful lot of different comics out there ranging from xkcd, buttersafe, cyanide and happiness, through Superhero Girl ( http://superherogirladventures.blogspot.com/ - went on hiatus LITERALLY this week, but still a hundred back issues to peruse) to your full on Marvel/DC heavy-weights. Where you go to get promoted and attract viewers is going to depend on what sort of a comic it is. Oh, Zack Giallongo, who did my avatar for me, has a book called Broxo coming out from First Second Books http://firstsecondbooks.typepad.com/mainblog/ samples of which are here: http://www.bradenlamb.com/?portfolio=broxo If that's the sort of thing they're doing maybe he should approach them - but there was a recent blog post from Faith Erin Hicks, who draws Superhero Girl, which may put aspiring comic artists off (the blog post is under the comic page): http://www.friendswithboys.com/2012/01/page-175/ Last edited by dadioflex; 02-28-2012 at 05:59 PM. |

Tough to say, I do longform comics and you have to find your niche/target audience, because there's really no one way to get out there. Analytics are a huge help in figuring out what works and what doesn't.
