Hypothetical Batch Conversion
So, let's say, hypotheticaly speaking, I legally downloaded (freebies) 1000 ebooks in epub format and I need to convert them to .mobi for my kindle. Would Calibre do this fast enough? Can you recommend me any other program?

In my experience, Calibre takes only about 30 seconds or so to convert a typically sized .epub book to .mobi format. So it should be usable for your purposes. But I've never tried to do such a large batch conversion.
