I think I know the answer to this but..
Is it possible to purchase kindle ebooks without installing kindle software on a device/pc? I just want to buy them and use calibre. Am I right in saying I have to install kalibre software and register it before I can but and download them? Regards Clive |

There are two ways to get Amazon ebooks onto your computer. One way is to send them to a registered Kindle and either copy them from the device using calibre or download to your computer the link for the book Amazon sends you in an email. The second way is to put the Kindle for PC/Mac application on your computer, register it to your Amazon account, and send the book you purchase to the application. Then you can add the .azw book file (found in the Documents/My Kindle Content folder on your computer I think) that corresponds to the book to calibre.

If your need to get Kindle books is to convert them ePub or some other format, you'll need to google Apprentice Alf first. You can't convert a DRM'd azw file and Calibre doesn't do DRM removal.
