Send from Mac to Kindle (via Calibre)

Hi all!
I got a kindle for Christmas, and I synced it up with my email. However, I'm unsure of how to send it from Calibre on my Macbook Pro to my Kindle. I feel really stupid asking, but does anyone know how?

Steps are basically:
1. Plug Kindle in via USB
2. Wait for Calibre to recognise the Kindle
3. Highlight the books you want on the Kindle and press Send to Device
4. Wait for transfer to complete (job count at lower right to go to 0)
5. Use the Eject option via the arrow to the right of the Device toolbar icon
6. Unplug the Kindle and wait for it to find the books you have just transferred.
7. start reading!

When I try to transfer a book to my Kindle Fire from Calibre and go to open it, the message states it is not the correct format and that I must delete it?? These are books I purchased on Amazon and transferred to my Kindle for Mac, which I then transferred to Calibre. Why can't I transfer the books to my Kindle Fire? I know I can do it through Amazon-Manage My Kindle, but the purpose of having Calibre (for me) is to have a backup of all my Amazon books in case something should happen to them on Amazon and I can retrieve them and read them on my Kindle.

Help!!

Thank you,
Paulette

I answered your other post, but just in case I'll repost here...

Each download of a DRM'd Kindle book is encoded to a specific app or device (so for example your backups will only work with that specific install of K4 Mac) so to be able to transfer them to multiple devices you'd have to remove the DRM. Otherwise you'll need to download them directly to the Fire from your archives.
