The Penal Colony is one of Richard Herley's "thriller" novels. The Drowning is what he described as a "more literary work". Both are excellent and well worth reading.

Yeah, me too. But somehow people continue to buy Grisham stuff that is now really bad IMHO, but ignore Herley. There must be something we don't get, or we just have oddball taste.
