My name is Mark, from [promotion deleted - MODERATOR] in Perth Western Australia. I wear a few hats (but I've got rid of the hat stand so have to wear less now :-( ), mainly I train, train and manager trainers in business and IT. So if you're a good trainer with a reasonable bit of nouse, please drop a line as I may have some work for you!
This is a nice forum, I like the clean commments lack of bitchin' and back-biting found so often elsewhere. It's refreshing to hit a forum that's down to earth, factual and considerate. I'be been playing around with eBooks since Gutenburg launched many years ago, but didn't really get around to reading much of them, just stacking them up for later when there was something more convenient than a PC to lug around. Now, gee, we have laptops, mobiles and tablets finally coming of age. So which do I pick? I've had a play with a Kindle. Nice - especially sunlight readability, but a pain in the proverbial when it comes to managing series - you have to manually annotate and number. Bah to that! I like to get a series, ensure they're numbered chronologially and set out to a great read! I'm thinking of the Sony reader, as it seems well supported by Calibre. Calibre's my hub, I've got Adobe's DRM installed, have migrated the eBooks from my Android phone from Amazon and Kobo (a bit of a pain, but worth it) and now want to get a reader that simply allows me to throw a series from Calibre to device(s) without having to reorder and tag etc. I was looking at the Kindle Fire, but if I was going for a tablet, I'd likely get a Galaxy or a Sony. That seems sensible, but backlit devices are a pain to read in sunlight (very bright here on the edge of a desert plain!) even with playing around with high contract and low brightness on a nightlit screen. So I'm leaning towards a Sony reader. The question is ..do I need my head examined, and what the issue with folder management on the Sony that I've seen in some posts? Oh yeah, glad to be here and hope I can help in some way. Regards, Mark Last edited by Dr. Drib; 02-03-2012 at 05:43 AM. |
