The Best Narrated Audiobooks (article)

http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/the-...o-books-167299

The only one I've heard on the list is Me Talk Pretty One Day, which is brilliant. The comments have me wanting to track down the Dark Tower audiobooks, though I've put a big enough chunk of my life into those books

Check out The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Narration is excellent!

I agree with them that Douglas Adams' version of HHGTTG is superior to Stephen Fry's. My favourite reader is Simon Vance, he's very good at giving life to history or classics or philosophy.

Frank Muller was one of the best for audiobooks. His voice alone brought to mind a seasoned wild west adventurer and fit so well with the content of King's Dark Tower series.

If, like myself, you have time on a daily commute then an audiobook can be be very welcome companion. I highly recommend finding and a least listening to one of the Muller read books.

I accidentally happened into the Dark Tower Series. The first one I heard was read by George Guidall though. He was pretty amazing himself, but Frank Muller is incredible.

I also had a real good time with Stephen King's 11-22-63, narrated by Craig Wasson. He was remarkable. I guess they're all good.

I wasn't that impressed, his pacing and tone kept changing every few minutes.

I look at good narration as a bonus; but content always wins out. I'd rather listen to a poorly read book of content I like, than a well read book of content I don't like.

I don't know about the best, but I can certainly remember the worst. The book or series of books was the fantasy series The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. The guy who was reading it had a really heavy Bronx or Jersey accent. It was like Tony Soprano doing Bada Bing in your ear. Suffice it to say I didn't get very far with those audio books, but I did love reading the novels.

Eek! Lots of excellent audio books, but some are dreadful due to the reader.

The Audible Lost Fleet audio books read by Christian Rummel. His ability to switch between different character accents is remarkable.

Too true! I checkout out Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich which is narrated by C.J. Critt. Critt does an okay job on the earlier Stephanie Plum novels so I didn't expect how bad of job she did on Metro Girl but I couldn't get past the first chapter.

I love Lorelei King! Her narration on the Stephanie Plum novels was just wonderful! I went and checked out more of her work from the library. The variety of voices she does amazes me.

Xe Sands hypnotic voice is another one I enjoy, although her male voices are very much alike. I don't recommended listening to her voice while driving, You might become too relaxed.

I've just started listening to audiobooks regularly. I didn't know there was narrators out there that could dramatize so well. I am on the hunt for others like Lorelei King.

I enjoyed the reading, but had to quit on the third book because I didn't like the writing.

Rupert Degas reads all English translations of the novels of Haruki Murakami and I ADORE him. I also second all those who commented about Frank Mueller.

I guess he is pretty good, at least as far as differentiating characters, but he's also very easy to fall asleep to (which is not all bad!). I do find it necessary to run his readings at +20% speed

My favorite is Veronica Giguere, doing The Secret World Chronicle. Several books worth.

Free, too!

Yeah, that's the point! Follow the ebb and tide of the story, crescendos and climaxes with dramatic change to tone and pace...
