Deauthorizing a PRS-505
I have the most current versions of Adobe Digital Editions and the Sony Reader for PC software. I've attempted to deauthorize my PRS-505 so I can put it up for sale, but I'm not quite sure I've been successful.
I hooked up the 505 to my computer, launched ADE, selected the device in the menu on the left, hit CTRL+SHIFT+E, and confirmed that I want to deauthorize it. If I leave the 505 hooked up and run either ADE or Reader for PC, both programs detect the device and ask if I would like to authorize it, which I then cancel. So far it sounds like I was successful. But I'm a little confused because if I launch Reader for PC and check under my account where it allows me to rename my various devices, it still lists the 505. I would expect to no longer see it there if my deauthorization was truly successful. So what do people think? Am I good to go? |

On your 505 go to Settings > About. In the second paragraph, if your device is still authorized, then it will say "This device is authorized for Adobe DRM protected content." If it is not authorized, then I assume it says something like "This device is not authorized...". If it still showing up on your Sony account page, then call the Sony support desk and they will remove it for you. Hope that helps!

Or, better yet, just unauthorize it using the Sony Library Reader software while it is hooked up via USB.

![]() Edit: Okay, so I didn't skim far enough to see what you're talking about. It says it's not authorized for Adobe DRM. Quote:
Edit: So I found this article on Sony's website that explains how to do it. Apparently you have to click on Preferences while holding down the secret double hotkey combo: http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/m...rue&mdl=PRS505 Adobe Digital Editions is kinda like this too. I don't know why they hide this stuff behind undocumented hotkey combos. It's not like it would be an unrecoverable disaster if one were to accidentally deauthorize a device. Oh, well. Thanks, you two ![]() Last edited by Ozric; 01-31-2012 at 10:52 PM. |

Thanks for sharing the link. Who would've guessed the secret key presses needed?! Like Peter said, it was pretty straight-forward with the old Reader Library software.

I am not sure deauthorizing is necessary although desirable.
Without your password for library or store no-one could get your content. As long as it can be reauthorize by the purchaser, should not be a problem. Helen |

Yeah, but since I don't know for sure if it can be reauthorized to a new account if it hasn't been deauthorized from my old account first, better safe than sorry, I suppose. I wouldn't want to sell it to someone, only for them to discover they can't authorize it.
